Tips for studying the New York DMV Test
Taking the New York DMV test can be nerve racking which is why the more practice you get behind the wheel and the more studying you do the less anxious you will feel come test day. Continue to read the following to find out helpful tips to prepare you for the day of your test, what to practice for, and what to be aware of during your test.
- Stay calm and alert. If you are anxious or nervous during your New York DMV test, it can distract you. The most important thing to remember is to stay focused during your test because you want to be ready if you have to respond quickly in a situation. If not you could make a minor mistake that could cost you a major penalty.
- Once you get in the car before you do anything buckle your seat belt and check and adjust your mirrors. This will show the instructor that you’re aware of the dangers of operating a car and are cautious enough to take the proper precautions before even starting the engine.
- When the test starts it is imperative to keep both hands on the wheel at all times. When you start the test whatever you do, do not cross your hands over one another. Crossing your hands during a New York DMV test will cause you to receive a penalty. The more penalties you have against you the closer you get to failing.
- Always use your turn signal! For every time you do not properly signal before turning you will be penalized. You should turn your blinker on at least two seconds before making a turn to properly warn other drivers.
- There are three tasks that you will definitely need to know how to do. You will need to know how to parallel park, perform a three point turn, and follow all road signs. The driving instructor supervising your test will not warn you or give you any type of instruction. It is completely up to you to pay attention, and know how to preform each task perfectly.
Driving is a privilege and a car is not a toy. Cars are dangerous and if you are behind the wheel and are not able to operate that car then you are putting yourself and other drivers on the road at risk. If you fail the driving test you will be able to take it again at a driving school in NY, however most states require a waiting period before exams.
